table at a meeting of the Legislative Council held yester-

day when the Surly Bill for 1900 was read a first time.

I enclose a copy of the remarks made by me

that meeting and of the Financial: returns accompanying

the draft Estimates. From the latter you will observe that

the Estimated balance of 1899 assets amounts to $415,618.90..

4. The Estimates will be forwarded in due

course as soon as they have been passed by the Council.
